For my virtual art gallery I have chosen modern contemporary art beginning at 1900 to the present. Modern contemporary style challenged the traditional style of art with its minimalistic style and very subjective meanings. While some might not find modern art extravagant, it is without a doubt still interesting.

The french born artist, Matisse is one of the early pioneers of what we now consider 'modern art". In "composition, Black and Red" we have what seems to be abstract vases and flowers.
In this painting, in contrast to the previous. We have a still modern painting of a room, Matisse had many paintings that simplified his surroundings rather than being abstract.
Self Portrait, Andy Warhol, 1967, From the collection of: Detroit Institute of Arts
Andy Warhol is one of the most notably famous contemporary artists, with his style still very popular today. In his self portrait, he distorts the colors depicting himself to give a more abstract feel
Still life with melon, Pablo Picasso, 1948, From the collection of: Galleria Civica di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Torino
Pablo Picasso is another one of the more famous contemporary artists. In the painting below we have a simple abstract sketch of a still life of an assortment of melons.
In this pice of art, Piet Mondrian uses an assortment of colors in a geometric form to display an appealing painting that doesnt need to be realistic, which is a huge goal of abstract contemporary art
Contructive Composition, Joaquín Torres García, 1943 - 1943, From the collection of: Art Museum of the Americas
In this piece by Garcia, we have a painting of what seems to be a 3 dimensional landscape in a 2 dimensional form. Garcia also simplified his surroundings to portray a simply appealing piece.
Portrait of Otto Mueller, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (German, 1880–1938), 1915, From the collection of: The Art Institute of Chicago
In this portrait, Kirchner challenges the tradition of realistic paintings by abstracting the portrait of Otto Mueller. The unrealistic depiction is a perfect example of Contemporary art at its finest
The Cathedral, František Kupka, 1912 - 1913, From the collection of: Museum Kampa
In this piece by Kupka, we again have the challenging that art doesnt have o be extravagant to be appealing. Kupka uses an array of colors in geometric patterns to make a masterpiece.
