The Firework is a student journal dedicated to celebrating literary criticism and creative writing from the University of Calgary. Accepting the essays you want to write and the stories you want to tell, we firmly believe that your passion can ignite the future of Canadian literature and scholarship. We hold that the boundaries between creative and critical work were meant to be broken. Beginning in our very own English Faculty, this press offers you the opportunity to become a part of the University of Calgary’s literary community.
So whAT DO we actualLY ACCEPT
Like we said, what you want to write! The Firework was born from this ideal, for different as literary criticism and creative writing may seem, they both stem from a deep rooted passion! However, we understand that in a classroom setting, to write with heart can (though not always) be difficult given the rules restricting one’s conduct. That is where the Firework comes in. Whether you have read a poem, watched a show, or played a game that lit your heart alight, inspiring you to examine and discuss your perception of it with others, or whether you wrote a creative work which you are desperate to share, the Firework is the place to let your passion ignite.
