Hello Subscriber First Name! I planned to lay out all of the fantastic Fourth of July activities in the community this coming Thursday, but to my surprise, everything happened last weekend. And by everything, I mean a tug-of-war contest (which did look pretty awesome). There are no planned fireworks, laser shows, or major events, except for the brand new Tarboo Festival at Quilcene Lantern or heading to Dogs-a-Foot before catching a concert at Fiddle Tunes. I’ve been a fan of cities moving away from pricey and loud fireworks displays since learning about how the loud blasts affect vets who are experiencing PTSD. I haven’t found laser shows to be personally satisfactory fireworks replacements, and perhaps that’s part of why no big event is happening this year in Port Townsend: we’re still figuring out what to replace traditional fireworks with. Who knows, there’s a good chance that’s just my opinion. How do you feel about fireworks, and if you want to see them replaced, what with?
