After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.
Former President Donald Trump on the Truth Social network announcing Senator JD Vance (R-OH) as his running mate.
Why It Matters: On the first day of the Republican National Convention and two days since a shooter carried out an assassination attempt, former President Donald Trump announced Senator Vance as his vice president for the 2024 election. Senator Vance, 39, first garnered national attention upon publishing his 2016 memoir titled “Hillbilly Elegy.” Elected to Congress in 2022 with President Trump’s endorsement, Senator Vance has publicly supported President Trump’s election campaign, with special emphasis on immigration, foreign policy and trade.
More About Sen. Vance: JD Vance grew up in Ohio, spending summers in Kentucky with his grandmother, and spent his early adult years serving in the Marine Corps. He graduated from Ohio State University then Yale Law School. Since being elected senator, he has worked on many different initiatives, one being with Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) on rail safety legislation. He is married to Usha Vance and the couple have three young children.
