That more than 20 robot companies participated shows that robot tech in Beijing is pushing forward quickly.
Guo Yijie, team lead for the winning robot, commenting on a half marathon in China where 21 robots joined alongside human racers, displaying China’s cutting-edge technology.
Why It Matters: Twenty-one robots recently competed in a half marathon in China; however, not all of them made it across the finish line. Robot Tiangong Ultra came in first of the robot competitors with a time of 2 hours and 40 minutes. Meanwhile, one robot collapsed shortly after starting the race, and another ran into a race barrier. The experiment and demonstration comes as China and the U.S. lead the world in artificial intelligence power. The U.S. leads by a wide margin, according to a Stanford University analysis, but robots competing in a half marathon race is not something the U.S. has conquered.
