okay on the real though, the official team name is golden girls.

27-year-old Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history, on social media sharing the U.S. Women’s Gymnastic Team’s “nickname” – inspired because the team is the “oldest” to participate in the Olympics since 1952. The team, with the average age of 22.5 years-old, won gold in the Olympic Team Finals.

Why It Matters: The Biles-titled “Redemption Tour” for the U.S. team put them back atop the podium after finishing with a silver during the last Olympics; during that Olympics, Biles withdrew from competition during the team finals due to a case of the “twisties” and later completely withdrew from the competition for her own mental and physical health. Her teammates also had to overcome a series of challenges, including illness and injury, in recent years. Biles shared after the win, “I think we all had something to prove from Tokyo.” Teammate Suni Lee shared, “We had the most fun I’ve ever had at a meet.” The team still has individual events in the coming days.

The Italian team finished second – the first time winning silver since the 1920s. Brazil won the bronze, the country’s first medal for this event.
